LinkedIn used Node.js and HTML 5 to Build their App – And Why I like it So Much
By: Amy Wilson 08/24/2011

LinkedIn UpdatesLinkedIn recently launched a new version of their mobile app, and while it has a host of new features, perhaps the most exciting part is in the backend development.

As someone who is obviously addicted to apps, and using them on a daily basis, I was very excited to see LinkedIn’s new app. It features a sleek new look and feel, with a streamlined user experience. I came across these articles, which I thought provided some good information on mobile web apps vs. native apps; as well as using HTML 5 for the mobile web app and parts of the native app. It also includes some interesting information on using Node.js to improve speed.

Jolie O’Dell at VentureBeat.com has done a really good job of explaining how they used Node.js and HTML 5 to build their app as well as the new features in the LinkedIn application.

I’ve downloaded the app for the iPhone and have been using it for about a week now and really like a lot of its features. Take a look at the app and find my profile on LinkedIn.

Enjoy!
