Atlantic BioMedical / Field Service Web-based Application
Atlantic Biomedical is a full service medical equipment company specializing in sales and preventative maintenance. After using COTS software for years, they realized that the system they were using did not fit their needs and was restricting their workflow. They decided to hire Accella to build a custom web application which would track all of their clients, equipment, work orders, and technician scheduling through a mobile Field Service Application.
The system was built on Symfony, a web application framework, used as a way to speed development and build a solid base. The system’s three main components are the scheduling page, the preventative maintenance tracking, and maintenance results processing. The scheduling page provides functionality which takes the guess work out of how to schedule the companies technicians across their 700+ clients.
The application gives the user the ability to pull up a day’s schedule and select a client. It will then compute the travel times for each of the companies technicians based on the day’s schedule and provide suggestions through a google map interface on who will be the closest technician to that client and when they will be available. This allows the user to quickly schedule the appointment with the client still on the phone without having to spend valuable time researching client locations and technician availability. The application also allows Atlantic Biomedical to store all of their client’s equipment data including make, model, and serial number and allows them to record preventative maintenance schedules for their clients. The company is then alerted when upcoming preventative maintenance scheduling is necessary.
Some of the Application Features Include:
- Custom Online Scheduling System
- Integrates with Google Maps
- Maintains clients, devices, and maintence schedules
- Built on open source PHP Framework, Symfony
Finally, the system handles all maintenance results processing. Atlantic Biomedical uses a med tester for recording automated results from the equipment they test. This includes information about how the equipment is functioning and if repairs are necessary. The med tester then exports proprietary data files for results processing. Atlantic Biomedical can now import that file into the web application and attach it to the proper client. The information is then used to send reports and invoices to clients for the necessary repair work. It is also used as a means to verify that all equipment was tested for a particular client.
For some of our clients, COTS products will work fine and we’ll make that recommendation when we see fit. For others, we’d suggest modifying an open source application to speed development. However, those two solutions are not always the best option. Every now and then there is a client that needs a purely custom system to fit their workflow. At that point, we begin our research into the internal workings of your company and become experts on your business processes so that we can build you the exact system you need.
